Balgowan is a diverse community: nearly 30 different languages are spoken by children, staff and parents. We wanted to celebrate all the languages and cultural backgrounds that our children, you, as their parents, or grandparents, have.  Our International Day took place on Friday 6th October and for the first time we introduced ‘The Balgowan International Street Food Market’. It included decorated stands which were displayed with donated dishes (and recipes) from various cultures and heritages.

Food really does bring people together, the event allowed our Balgowan community to come together and celebrate all the different cultures and heritages represented in the school. It was such a pleasure to see how many families supported this event.

A big thank you to Mrs Steinegger, our MFL lead and Mrs Holderried, our new PTA chair, for leading on organisation of this whole school event. Our thanks go to all staff and parents who donated such delicious food; your culinary skills and efforts were truly appreciated. Thank you to Mr Martin who prepared a Capoeira display; the skills and agility of children who train in this marshall arts were mid-blowing. This allowed us to lean more about Brazilian culture and history. Thank you also to all the parents who came in to speak to the children about their cultures. A big thank you to all the PTA members, staff and parents who contributed to this event in every possible way. It was a wonderful event.
